My Home

This is not the house I grew up in, however its the house my family lives in that we moved to when I got to high school. This house has had a positive impact on my life by just being home to me. This is where I spend my breaks from college and the holidays and also where I go back to see my friends from high school. I still have a bedroom there and have countless memories from living there. definitely a house i’ll never forget and as long as my parents don’t change their minds, it’ll be in my family for a while.  Honestly, one day I hope I get to live their with my family.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park

Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park was created by Louis Khan and stood in Roosevelt Island, New York from 1973-2012. It was one of the coolest parks I have ever seen in my life. Standing with a beautiful view of water, it was a long area of flat grass with rows of trees. The entire thing was bordered by concrete and it compliments it extremely well. The steps walking up to it are also a nice touch.

Kimbell Art Museum

The Kimbell Art Museum was created by Louis Kahn in 1966. It was built in Fort Worth, Texas. It is a masterful building perfectly fit to display other masterpieces on the smaller scale. It was a mostly concrete building with walkways of tree and multiple other shrubbery. He wanted to convey a natural feeling of the days changing while also having that concrete appearance.

Bizzell Memorial Library

While I think the Biz is a really cool looking building and I find myself in there quite often, it’s not a building i’m particularly fond of.  I Do admire the building and its beauty but I always find myself there late at night cramming for exams or doing all sorts of homework. I’m a pretty organized student except when to comes to subjects I don’t find interesting.  So I usually only find myselfat the Biz when I have a test for a subject I don’t like.  As just a junior, ive found myself taking way to many classes I don’t like or was required to take.  Also I hate that they close it at 2am, some of my best work gets done early in the morning and It’s a college campus.  So, in the long run the Biz has had a interesting impact on my life that I would credit more negatively than positively.

Walker Tower

Walker Tower had sort of a mix of both positive and negative influence. It was my first introduction to life without living with the parents. That was extremely exciting and it turned out to be an amazing time. I met so many new people and some of them I am still friends with to this day. The only negative aspects was it could get uncomfortable due to the small living spaces as well as the incredibly squeaky beds. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and will learn to miss it one day.

Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

Another building that has had an extremely positive influence on me would be the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Growing up in Oklahoma, we would always travel Norman on Saturdays to watch the OU football team play in this massive stadium. It has given me many memories of joy from going wild after a big play or a game-winning touchdown catch. I have met many friends there and it is always a good time, unless we lose the game. However looking back even if we lose, we had fun while doing it.

Adams Tower

This is a building I’m sure almost everyone can relate to or has at least seen before. I spent my freshman year living in adams tower and it had a positive impact on my life.  Living in a dorm that’s almost 40 years older than you can seem like a drag but even thought it was small and old, it was home. Personally this building positively impacted me because it was the first time I wasn’t living at home and had to take care of myself entirely on my own. This took a few weeks to master but I enjoyed the constant life, people being everywhere and never having privacy. I’m a social person so this fit me pretty well and helped me thrive.  As a junior now I’ve lived in various rent houses since them and nothing compares to living in a dorm. even though I enjoyed my time in adams I dont think Id like to do it again. one year in there was enough.

Maya Lin, alongside being an architect, was an amazing artist. Lin designed “Women’s Table” and it was commissioned in 1989. This was created to show the absence of women enrolled in Yale when it began in 1701. The sculpture was finished in 1993 and women enrolled at Yale met the same as men and by 1999 women outnumbered men enrolled. This is my favorite piece of her art because it has an important meaning behind it and encourages women.

Empire State Building

The Empire State building has certainly influenced me in a positive way. When I was around 15, Me and my family took a trip to New York City. While I was there, we did many interesting things such as walk in Central Park and go to all the shops and stores that there were to offer. My favorite thing was seeing the Empire State building and going inside of it. It made me think about the achievement this actually was and how incredible the existence of it is. It motivated me to always do my best and that nothing is out of reach with proper planning and perseverance.
